Hello all, and when you’re reading
this our National hunt will be completed and many new things will be
happening. With the price of gas it makes me and many others wonder
just what kind of effect it will have on our major events. I
traveled to North Carolina for the Grand Bluetick Reunion. The
impact or cost of traveling to these events is large, and I know
that it effects everyone and I just don’t know what will come if the
trend we are seeing continues. I hope all that did make it to
Bluetick Days had a safe trip home and for all that attended we hope
you had a good time.
My next column will have who the
general membership has nominated for the top 3 positions to lead
BBOA next year. As of this writing I do not know of anyone person
who has made known to the National Officers their wish to run for
President, Vice President or Secretary/Treasurer. I have been
notified that Marty Waddell our current National membership chairman
and Renae Ehlenbach our Bluebook editor, Jake Appel the current
Invitational Hunt Chairman will step down from their positions when
the current national officers now in office are done. This will mean
a complete new slate of officers throughout the executive committee
for BBOA and some of the major positions within BBOA.
I would like to thank all of the
officers who stepped in and took entries, stuck cards, called cast
and manned the BBOA membership table at the Reunion. I never had to
ask for any help and even got help from folks who were not Bluetick
people, but rather just wanted to help. I’d like to pass along
special thanks to JJ Callahan, Charles Locklear, Todd Carter, Chad
Gordon, Priscilla Huff, Sandy Callahan, Christian Smith, Brent
Lipscomb, Ed Willis, Big Ernie
J and also to
Shane Wheeler and Danny Stephan’s of BBCHA for their help and
support.
In this issue should be complete
coverage of the Grand Bluetick Reunion. I’d like to congratulate all
of our winners, and the King and Queens of our major event. It was
nice to have BBCHA back at this event working with us to promote the
Bluetick Coonhound. Our numbers were off but with 4 ½ inches of rain
in 2 days what can you expect. Hey we had 72 dogs go to the woods on
Friday night with tornado warning just 30 miles south of where the
hunt was being held !! Man, was it ever tough weather but we did
what we could and it is what it is. Thursday night saw 52 Bluetick
enter for the first ever Bluetick only RQE and we saw 8 Blues get
qualified for the 2008 UKC World Championship. I hope I get to see
some of them dogs up here in my country the 3rd week in
September !!
I will have several things to report
next month after the Board meets and then the general membership
meeting. There are many topics that will be voted on from single
registration, constitutional changes to wording changes. Bluebook
contracts, printing contracts and agreements with BBCHA regarding
the future of the Grand Bluetick Reunion. I am waiting on this
information from BBCHA President Shane Wheeler and will present it
to our Directors and membership at Bluetick Days. It will be an
informative meeting with facts and information that our membership
will vote on how we will proceed.
Hall of Fame and National Officer
Ballots will be going out after National Bluetick Days. Once all of
the information is gathered, we will get them printed, stuffed into
envelopes and into the mail to you the members. Please take the time
to fill out your ballots, and mail them back. Make your voice be
heard and exercise your right as a member of BBOA.
I heard from Charles Locklear that
David Leatherwood won high scoring dog Friday night at the NC State
championship with Nite CH’PR’ Prides Northern Blue Flash. I think
Charles was kind of happy to the way he sounded. Congrats to David
and Flash on their win !! I have been on the phone talking with
many of the Directors, or should I say returning calls with many
topics being discussed. I would like all of you readers to know just
how much I appreciate all the hard work your Directors do for this
organization. They do a great job and they do your zones proud by
their work, actions and support of this organization.
Well its late and I’ve still got work
to do (the kind that puts food on the table and pays the bills) so
better get this off and remember to be safe in your travels to and
from the hunts. Just in case I noticed that once again my Email
address was wrong at the top of my last article, so let put it in
this column so if you need it you can find it. My Email address is
Southlandblues@verizon.net. Now, take a child coonhunting this
summer, introduce a friend to the sport, sign them up to BBOA as it
makes a great gift and remember keep our service men and women in
your prayers each night. Think I’ll take my grandsons hunting this
coming weekend and finish the night with a nice fire and sit back
and look at the stars. They sure do enjoy it and so do I
J
Night all and God Bless.
